GEOTHERMIA

An old human dream is to take advantage of the high temperature that prevails inside the Earth. The idea came from the release of a large amount of hot water and / or steam or simply hot air (called geothermal fluids) in many parts of the Earth. In other areas, which do not have this privilege, drillings are made at great depths, in order to find these geothermal fluids.
Geothermal energy is a mild and renewable energy source, which can, with the current technological possibilities, cover the energy needs of heating, but also of electricity generation, in some cases.
The temperature of the geothermal fluid varies from region to region and can range from 25 C to 350 C.
In cases where the geothermal fluids have a high temperature (above 150 οC), the geothermal energy can be used mainly for the production of electricity.
‘When the temperature is lower, geothermal energy is used to heat homes and other buildings or facilities, greenhouses, livestock farms, fish farms, etc.
Our country due to the formation of its subsoil, is rich in geothermal energy, as shown on the map.
This energy is being used today at an increasing rate. In the South Aegean region the temperatures of geothermal fluids are very high, while areas rich in geothermal, with fluids of lower temperatures, are scattered throughout the country.
